Mental Health Awareness Month (May)

Mental health concerns can come for many people and a variety of disorders to include depression or mood disorders, anxiety, personality disorders, psychotic disorders, trauma, eating disorders, substance use disorder, and others.

How do you know when it is time to reach out for help?

  • · Difficulties with sleep – trouble falling or staying asleep, or sleeping too much

  • · Low energy and motivation

  • · Sadness

  • · Nervousness

  • · Difficulties concentrating

  • · Self-doubt or low self-worth

  • · Becoming easily annoyed or irritable

  • · Chronic stressors

  • · Loss or struggles with grief

  • · Trauma

Mental stress can also greatly impact your physical health. Our emotional and mental health paired with our physical health is what makes us “healthy.” Stress is normal for our bodies, but how we recover and cope with stress can make all the difference. Mental stress impacts our immune system and increases the likelihood of physical illness (APA, 2012).

Are you someone who is struggling right now? It may be time to reach out yourself. That may be reaching out to a primary care doctor, a friend, a therapist, or a psychiatrist. No matter what that step is, you deserve to take it for yourself and the people you love who may be impacted.

If you are searching for a therapist or counselor you can learn more about tips to starting therapy here or use a directory service where you can narrow your search based on types of therapy, insurance, location, etc.. therapy directories to get started can include https://www.therapyden.com/ or mental health match.
